After decades of building a brand, teaching, inspiring and learning from countless women, it’s time for The Very Last Word.

I spent more than half my life in the skincare and beauty business, founding the company Caryl Baker Visage. I pioneered the try-before-you-buy concept, removing the counter between the client and the salesperson. I opened salons in major shopping centres and eventually franchised them, empowering women to own their own businesses.

In 2013, after more than 40 years, I sold my business. At first, I felt a sense of freedom. But now I realize I still have more to offer. That’s why I’ve decided to write about my experiences, hurdles, and the original ideas that enabled me to run a successful business for over four decades—and sell it for more than I could have ever imagined.

When I was in business, I wrote a brochure every quarter for the upcoming season. It included new products, trends, and services. At the end of each brochure, I featured a page called The Last Word, where I shared my thoughts and opinions—not always about beauty, but about life. Many of my clients loved those pages and even collected the brochures. Some would call and even ask us to send them a copy if they missed an issue!

Fast forward 20 years later, and I wanted to find a place to re-share my last words from back then—alongside my thoughts and reflections on how those words speak to me today. So alas I present to you… The Very Last Word.
